Head to head

Comparisons

16 head-to-head pages, each one putting two scored labels side by side on the same six criteria. Every figure on them is read from the same two rows as the two product pages, so a comparison cannot disagree with the pages it compares.

What a comparison does not say. A higher score means the label discloses more, not that the product is better or that it works. Nothing here was lab-tested, and no product on this site is recommended over another. A pair can only be built where both labels are scored, so a comparison a shopper might want is missing whenever one of the two has no score yet; the ones already declared are listed under Pending.

Pairs are taken from the ranking the sample was drawn from: products near each other in the top 30, the two highest scorers, the drugstore shelf neighbours, two of one brand’s own formulas, the two children’s products and the two gummies. A pair may also put a sampled product against one scored from outside the ranking under the v1.14 off-sample ruling, where that is the comparison a shopper is actually making; such a product is scored on the identical criteria and counted in no ranking or mean. The full sample, including the 12 excluded products, is on the results page.
